Parry's Sail To the Baltic

Gdansk to Wladyslawowo

August 14, 2008

Got up early this morning and wandered into the centre of Gdansk before the crowds arrived, it was wonderful to see it in its full glory without the Dominican Fair stalls cluttering the place.

Left the marina in sunshine at 9.45, filled with fuel and then sailed with the wind behind out of Gdansk Bay. It must have been hot as I even had my bikini on sunbathing!

Hardened up to the wind around the corner of the Hel spit and then sailed along the coastline half a mile off shore and into the fishing port of Wladyslawowo. Had to moor alongside the quay as the yacht berths were all full or too narrow to slot into. Paid our 40ztls to a Polish harbour master woman who was dressed for clubbing not to receive sailing guests! and then walked into town.

A bit of a shock! The town was mobbed 2-3 rows deep of people on the pavements and loads of tacky stalls!  We are just not used to seeing this many people.  The place was also a little run down but at least the Poles were having a good holiday!

Walked back along the beach, stunning!
