Parry's Sail To the Baltic
Nynashamn to Uto Anchorage
June 21, 2008
Oh dear….didn’t get off the the best start this morning…it was blowing a hoolie and so get out of the berth was going to be a bit tricky. This is how is goes…Steve winds in the stern warp attached the the grip thingy which is then attached to the stern buoy! We then creep back slowly with me letting out the bow rope slowly until we reach the stern bouy…....easy! This time though the bouy was alongway back and I ran out of rope (needed 40m of rope….now found some in a locker….damn!) and Steve had trouble unclipping….he asked for my help and so I came back before getting the last of the rope in from the water….the result was rope wrapped around the prop in 20knots of wind…...with now no engine!
Its at times like these being married to a yachtmaster who is cool under pressure (Unilever training!) is even better than usual! We got a bit of jib out and tacked up to the fuel jetty (which was were we were going anyway!) and parked under sail! Very cool! The guy running the fuel then contacted a friend who was a diver (just happened to be a navy under water mine expert!) to come along whilst on holiday! to get the rope off. He arrived with a full dry suit and gear…the water was 10*C very cold! It took him about 20mins to get rid of it all and cost us 500skr! Oh well first time for everything!
Anchored opposite the Church at Uto Island and then cycled into the main village! There were black clouds overhead but we just made it before the rain came! Had a drink in town, bought some of the famous Uto bread which weighed a ton.. and tasted of liquorice!! very nice.
